Bogus footballer jailed for rape
Swansea Crown Court
The court heard Jobe befriended Swansea players
A man who posed as a Swansea City football player has been jailed for eight years for raping a woman he drugged with a tranquiliser.

Ismael Jobe, 34, who was also known as Alan Johnson, persuaded a 24-year-old girl, who visited his home during a night out, that he played for the Third Division team.

A jury at Swansea Crown Court heard that while she was at his flat in the Gendros area of the city, he slipped Valium into her drink and later raped her.

Jobe was cleared of an almost identical allegation relating to a 20-year-old woman who later became pregnant with his child.

Injury

During the trial, the jury heard how Gambia-born Jobe befriended Swansea City players and even negotiated free entry to a nightclub on their behalf.

Midfielder Jason Price, now with Third Division leaders Hull City and other players knew him as an ex-West Bromwich Albion player, who had been forced out of the game by a knee injury.

Judge Michael Burr heard unemployed Jobe, met the woman at a Swansea nightclub and convinced her that he played for the city's football team.

The judge said he could not ignore the fact that a serious case of rape had been aggravated by the use of drugs.

The court also heard Jobe was already the subject of deportation proceedings.
