Singer Cerys Matthews has given birth to her first child.

The former Catatonia frontwoman gave birth to a 6lb 12oz daughter at Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest, west Wales.

Family and friends are said to be delighted.

Matthews is now back home with her parents, Pauline and Philip Matthews, at at their house in Pembrokeshire.

Her husband Seth Riddle is also staying at the property in the tiny village of Trevine.

Matthews, aged 34, gave birth at 12.23 BST on Sunday.

A record company spokeswoman said: "Cerys is back home with her parents and both mother and baby are doing brilliantly.

"Everyone is very pleased.

"The baby has not yet got a name - they are waiting to grow into one."

Becoming a mother marks a big turn-around in Matthews's life.

Following the break-up of Catatonia two years ago she was said to be at rock bottom.

She left Wales to escape the limelight and went to live in the US state of Tennessee.

It was there she met record producer Mr Riddle while working on her first solo album.

The couple married in Trevine in February this year with hundreds of well wishers outside the chapel.

Her album Cock-a-hoop was released in May and Matthews undertook a short UK tour to promote it before retreating to Pembrokeshire to prepare for her new arrival
