A father-of-two has died from food poisoning while on a family holiday to Spain after eating chicken at a local restaurant. Garry Smith, a 49-year-old maintenance manager from Morriston in Swansea, was spending a fortnight with his wife and two children in the resort of Cala d'Or in Majorca.
But one week into the holiday, he was struck down with food poisoning following a meal out, and had to go to hospital after his symptoms became worse.
He was taken to the island's capital, Palma, but died a few hours later.
Mr Smith's body is expected to be flown home on Monday.
'Senseless death'
His wife, Llinos, a community nurse, told the South Wales Evening Post the Spanish health authorities were investigating the restaurant where they ate the meal.
She said: "We didn't even have a chance to say goodbye to him.
"It was such a stupid, senseless death."
She added there would not be an inquest into Mr Smith's death.
Mr Smith was a keen diver, and acted as an instructor at the Swansea Yacht and Sub Aqua Club, where he was an executive committee member.
He is expected to be buried at St Peter's Church in Cockett, Swansea.
