Professionalise herbalism says MEP

A Welsh MEP says practitioners of herbal medicine should be given professional healthcare status.

Plaid Cymru MEP Jill Evans wants to see herbalists being given professional status on a par with radiographers and paramedics.

The move would allow herbalists to continue to prescribe medicines and remedies, despite a tightening of EU regulations.

But Professor David Colquhoun, a pharmacologist at University College London and campaigner against scientific fraud, said it was a "crazy idea".
