Sugababes headlined at Ynysangharad Park on Saturday |
The Sugababes and Only Men Aloud! were top billing in a two-day festival in Pontypridd, south Wales. Thousands of people turned out for Ponty's Big Weekend at Ynysangharad Park on Saturday and Sunday. The event followed last year's Big Weekend in the Park, set up by Rhondda Cynon Taf council after the Full Ponty festival was cancelled. Others acts included Shan Cothi and John Owen-Jones as well as Bjorn Again, who perform Abba songs. Last year's summer entertainment, one of the largest events in the south Wales valleys, featured Welsh X-Factor runner-up Rhydian Roberts. The council stepped in with the four-day festival after organisers of the previous event, the Full Ponty felt they did not have an adequate line-up to follow on from high-profile acts such as Tom Jones and Lostprophets. This year's two-day festival was again aimed at a family audience. Only Men Aloud! are the finale to the festival |
The Sugababes, whose track record includes 16 top ten singles, six number ones, five platinum albums and seven Brit Award nominations, were the headline act on Saturday night. Sunday's line-up included local boy James Williams, who reached the final 24 on X-Factor 2008, where he performed in front of his mentor Dannii Minogue and millions of viewers. The winners of BBC's Last Choir Standing, Only Men Aloud!, provided the finale to the weekend's entertainment.
