Jobs at risk at Ryder Cup hotel

Celtic Manor Resort
The Celtic Manor resort at Newport will host the Ryder Cup next year

Around 70 jobs may be at risk at the Celtic Manor Resort, the host of the Ryder Cup golf tournament in 2010.

A cost-cutting review could lead to the redundancies at the five-star resort in Newport, which employs about 700 staff.

In a statement, it said it had included an employee panel and the conciliation service Acas in the process.

The resort said the cuts were one of a number of possibilities being considered to stay competitive during the global economic downturn.

But it said that redundancies were not a step the resort would take lightly.

It also added that any cost-cutting measures would not affect the resort's ability to stage the Ryder Cup in 2010.
