Rugby pair's 'Grand Slam' wedding
Matthew Edwards and Michelle Lewis
Matthew Edwards and Michelle Lewis had a rugby-themed wedding
A couple who met while watching Wales' last Grand Slam married on Saturday and then watched the match.

Michelle Lewis and Matthew Edwards, from Merthyr Tydfil, told wedding reception guests to change into red rugby jerseys for the match.

Bride Michelle also ditched her wedding dress for the kick-off, and watched Wales play on a big screen.

"It's going to be a double celebration - getting married and winning the Grand Slam," she insisted before the game.

The pair laid eyes on each other for the first time while watching Wales defeat Ireland to claim the Six Nations championship and Grand Slam in 2005.

"We were both in the White Lion pub in Aberdare, and it just happened," explained mother-of-three, Michelle.

It was another year before the couple became serious about each other, which finally led to Matthew proposing to Michelle while on holiday at Laugharne in Carmarthenshire, close to poet Dylan Thomas' boathouse.

Along with the big screen match, Michelle planned a Welsh rugby themed reception, with daffodils and flags.

However, she admitted that not all those invited to share their big day had been thrilled by the rugby theme.

"To be honest, it's been difficult with some, not everyone is such a fan of rugby," she added.

But for fianc Matthew, it is everything he ever wanted from a wedding.

"You can't miss a game like this," he said.
