Developers behind plans for an "urban village" say they are confident it will transform a "bleak" area of Cardiff.

Work is expected to start in April on a two-year development on industrial land west of Dumballs Road, Cardiff Bay.

More than 2,000 homes, a hotel and offices will be built over 13 hectares after plans were passed by councillors last month.

The 450m Havannah Quay scheme will also include purpose-built premises for media and music organisations.

The project is named after an old trading vessel moored for years on the River Taff.

"Havannah Quay will bring a rich variety of much-needed inner-city homes and businesses for people across Cardiff's community," says Simon Warder, of Cardiff-based RPS Planning and Development, which is managing the project on behalf of developer ICML.

The plans include new premises for a community media organisation and a trades and crafts training centre.
