215 jobs under threat at factory

Talks are taking place about the future of the plant
Workers at a factory in Ebbw Vale have been told the plant could close by next year with the loss of 215 jobs.

Talks have begun at Woodhead Connectivity Ltd which makes electrical equipment for industrial machinery controls.

Factory bosses blamed the closure proposals on a "process to rationalise its world-wide manufacturing capacity".

It follows an announcement on Thursday that 212 jobs are to be axed at the Corus steel plant in Llanwern, Newport.

Molex Incorporated, which took over Woodhead last August, said it planned to introduce a new organisation structure, which will affect Woodhead.

The firm now plans to hold talks with the management team about the future of jobs at the plant on the Rassau Industrial Estate in Ebbw Vale.

Talks are expected to last three months and should a decision be made to close the plant, it will take 12 months to complete.
