Dorothy Evans was back in court charged with driving offences |
A pensioner jailed for harassing a neighbour and for six breaches of an Asbo plans to appeal against her prison sentence, her daughter has said. Dorothy Evans, 81, was jailed for six months at Cardiff Crown Court on Tuesday for making her neighbours' lives "absolute hell".
Her daughter, Barbara Thomas, said on Thursday an appeal was planned.
Evans was back in court on Thursday to answer driving charges - which she denies - and the case was adjourned.
She was brought from prison to Caerphilly Magistrates Court, accused of driving without due care and attention and failing to stop following an incident in October 2005. She denies both charges.
Stephen Cox, magistrates chairman, adjourned the trial because Evans was unable to hear the proceedings.
It is due to be re-listed for next month in Cardiff Crown Court where there are facilities for the hard of hearing.
Her only child, Mrs Thomas, was at the court to see her mother for the first time since she was sent to Eastwood Park Prison near Bristol.
Mrs Thomas said her mother looked "older and iller".
She added: "I don't think she should have gone to prison.
"I want to get her out of prison - she is 81 not 41. I'm going to go to the solicitors to try and sort it out.
"They are very capable and they are working very hard on it. So far I've had a brief conversation with her (Evans) on the phone but I don't think she wants me to go and see her."
Mrs Thomas, who lives with Evans, said she had been inundated with messages of support from people in Abergavenny since her mother was jailed.
