John McFall took first place in the 100m race |
A disabled athlete whose adapted leg, stolen in a car theft, was returned to him has won his first comeback race. Cardiff-based amputee John McFall, 25, had his prosthetic running blade stolen along with his car in January.
But the bespoke leg was handed in by two men at the Welsh Institute of Sport in Cardiff (Uwic) after an appeal.
Mr McFall won the 100m at the Paralympic challenge in Duderstadt in Germany this weekend.
The athlete feared his athletic career would suffer following the theft of his car which had the 3,000 carbon fibre blade in the boot.
But after making an appeal for the thieves to return the blade, two men handed it in a week after the theft.
Mr McFall is one of the top three athletes in the world in his class at the 100m and 200m events.
"It went very well indeed," he said.
The specially-made limb is worth around 3,000 |
He said once the blade was returned he was able to restart his preparation for the race.
"Once I got the leg back my training was back on track and I have reaped the rewards this weekend."
Mr McFall is due to take part in several races over the next month including the Welsh Open and the Disability Sport for England competitions.
