Joaquin Phoenix says he was inspired by People in Planes' song |
Welsh rock band People in Planes impressed Oscar-nominated actor Joaquin Phoenix so much that he has directed the video for their latest single. The actor, who is up for an Academy Award for his portrayal of Johnny Cash in Walk The Line, said: "It sounds like music that I always love."
The video for If You Talk Too Much (My Head Will Explode) was shot in the Ontario International Airport.
The Porthcawl band will release their debut album in the US in March.
"I've never heard anything like it," said Phoenix. "The first inspiration is the song and for me it has to be a song that you like and respond to in some way. "And the People In Planes song has something really inspiring about it," he added.
Band member Pete Roberts, 23, said: "We approached a number of people about the video but we didn't actually approach Joaquin at first.

"We approached someone who shares the same manager as him and when the first guy was unavailable, his manager asked us if they could pass it on to Joaquin.
"And he just loved the track and called us up with a treatment and it went from there really."
The five-piece's debut album - As Far As The Eye Can See - will be released in America in March.
"Working with Joaquin was great," said Mr Roberts.
"It was just seamless meeting him, he was the coolest guy - a big star that just didn't have to prove himself.
The band described the star as "a mad ball of energy" |
"He was just like a mad ball of energy - in one bit we had to walk down a corridor and he was there at the other end leaping and shouting.
"The video is all about how people don't talk to each other enough anymore, how they are tied up with their mobile phones and things."
The band started life as Tetra Splendour and were signed to EMI. But they renamed themselves People in Planes and signed to Wind Up Records, which also represents rock band Evanescence.
They recently toured America with The Bravery and plan to spend more time in the United States and Canada this year.
"We'd love to release the album in the UK at the same time as America but the industry just doesn't work like that," explained Mr Roberts.
"But we are all really positive about the future and will be releasing the album in the UK as soon as we get the chance," he added.
