All aboard - the only way to travel in flooded Fairwater, Cardiff |
Thousands of people in Cardiff have had their water restored after a mains pipe was damaged, flooding a main road. Water company Dwr Cymru said 5,000 households in Canton, Ely, Fairwater, Riverside, Pontcanna and Llandaff lost their supply for much of Sunday.
Dwr Cymru said it had to shut the supply after a contractor working on traffic lights damaged a water main in the Fairwater area at 1000 BST.
Many homes regained water during the day and all had it back by 2000 BST.
The damage to the mains supply took place at Waun-Gron Road, flooding the road and a nearby park.
Waun-Gron Road was closed for several hours on Sunday morning, but had reopened by 1300 BST.

A spokesperson for Dwr Cymru Welsh Water said about 5,000 households across the west of the city had been left without a water supply.
He said the company had been inundated with phone calls from residents.
Nayna Patel, who owns the Cabin newsagents, on Waun-Gron Road, said the floodwater caused by the mains damage had forced her shop to close for several hours.
She added: "The road began flooding at 10am and the water started coming up to the door.
"We put a metal grille up to stop the water coming in and it went round the side of the shop and into the park.
"We were very lucky, it could have been very serious."
