The website is aimed at helping victims of domestic violence |
Ten reports of domestic violence are received by police in Newport every day, according to specialist officers who work in the city. The figure was revealed at the launch of a website aimed as a help point for women, men and children in the city affected by domestic abuse.
The website provides people with contact details of various agencies which can help victims.
It is being supported by various bodies including Gwent Police.
Sarah Portman, the chair of the Newport Domestic Abuse Forum, worked with the city's community safety partnership to co-ordinate the website.
She said: "It [the website] will provide a valuable resource for anyone who is being affected by domestic abuse.
"One of our key priorities within the forum is to increase the amount of information and support available for all within Newport who are experiencing the affects of domestic abuse.
"The website and Domestic Abuse Directory will enable quick, easy and safe access to information about a range of services that are available to provide help, refuge, advice and support when it's needed," she added.
The website offers safety advice as well as information on the sort of help available to people in the city.
Pc Shaun Matthews, a domestic abuse officer in the Gwent force said: "This is a way of bringing all the information together in one place which people can access easily.
"And it helps us because, through this website, we can see what help is out there for people who need it and we can point them in the right direction," he said.
According to official figures, nearly 27,000 incidents of domestic violence are reported to police in Wales during a single year.
