Ambulance collision death appeal
Royal Gwent Hospital
Mr Jenkins died in hospital in Newport
Police have appealed for a key witness to come forward who may have seen a fatal accident involving a 50-year-old man and an ambulance answering a 999 call.

The incident happened in Newport, south Wales, at 1315 BST on Tuesday.

Gareth Jenkins, from Cwmbran, was taken to hospital but died of his injuries.

Gwent Police have asked for a man sitting in a vehicle at traffic lights outside Newport bus station at the time of the collision to contact them.

The ambulance, which had its blue lights on, was responding to an emergency call when the man stepped onto a pedestrian crossing.

He was treated by the crew at the scene and then taken by second ambulance to the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport where he later died. The Kingsway was shut for two hours after the incident, but reopened later.

Don Page, chief executive of the Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust, said: "Our deepest sympathy and feelings go out to all concerned in this tragic incident.

"Our thoughts are with the family of the deceased at this difficult time and also with the ambulance crew who were involved in the incident."

The Health and Safety Executive has been informed.

Police have also appealed for else anyone who witnessed the accident to call headquarters on 01633 838111 or the Collision Investigation Unit on 01633 643091.
