Airgun attack on bus
Police tape
Police are investigating after six pellets hit the bus
An investigation has been launched following an air gun attack on a bus carrying passengers.

At least six pellets were fired at the bus which was travelling along Lighthouse Road towards the Duffryn estate in Newport on Thursday.

The shots caused external damage to the bus below where the driver sits.

No one was hurt during the incident which happened about 1245 BST.

Gwent Police have not been able to get a description of the person or people who carried out the attack.

But they believe that youths who hid in bushes alongside the stretch of road are responsible.

Pc Paul Greenwood who is investigating the crime said: " No one was injured this time but it looks like the driver was targeted which means we could have been dealing with much more unfortunate circumstances.

"We are taking this offence very seriously and are urging people to call us with any information they may have.

"The public need to be reminded that we are coming down hard on gun related crime following the recent guns amnesty and new legislation imposed by the Home Office facilitating us to deal with gun crime more effectively than ever before," he added.

During the gun amnesty, 339 guns, 12,584 rounds of ammunition and 18 other weapons were handed in to the Gwent force.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact Gwent Police on 01633 838111.
