Maggie Sadler worked at the Anchor Inn for 68 years |
A woman who worked at a pub for nearly seven decades celebrated her 100th birthday with a party at the bar she spent so much time at. Maggie Sadler met with colleagues she had not seen since leaving the Anchor Inn in Tintern 18 years ago when she was 82.
She began work at the Anchor when she was just 14 years old and continued working there until her retirement.
When the current landlord Alan Butt heard about her birthday, he decided to throw her a party and invite some of her old friends.
"I have been here for 14 years and so many people talk about when Maggie was working here," he said.
"People have got such fond memories of her and I thought it would be a nice thing to throw her a party in the pub."
She will get a chance to see some people she won't have seen for years and to have a good look around the pub again |
Mr Butt has spent a number of days trying to contact staff and landlords who would have worked with Ms Sadler.
"I have managed to find quite a few people who worked with Maggie over the years including a landlord and a landlady and some of the other staff.
"In all we have about 30 people attending and it will be so nice for Maggie because some she won't have seen for years and years," he added.
The Anchor Hotel is situated very near to the famous Tintern Abbey remains.
It was used during the construction of the abbey in 1131 as the monks' cider mill.

"Maggie is a well known figure connected with the pub and I am sure she is going to have a really great time today," said Mr Butt.
"She will get a chance to see some people she won't have seen for years and to have a good look around the pub again.
"We've got a cake and although we aren't expecting it to be a rowdy affair, Maggie may surprise us yet," he added.
