Injured climber's Snowdon rescue

An injured climber has been saved from Snowdon in a daring RAF Valley operation - the unit's 200th helicopter rescue so far in 2009.

It happened 2,300ft (700m) up the mountain when a winchman was lowered at the end of a 150ft line.

A rope was thrown to Llanberis mountain rescue team, who hauled him in.

Because the rotor blades would be too close to the cliffs, the helicopter had to lift rescuers to a spot from where they could climb to treat the woman.

The 26-year-old from Kent was suffering from a deep injury in her thigh, after she hurt herself while on a climb of The Wall at Cyrnlas.

Swung out

She had slipped and landed on a precarious ledge.

The climber and winch man Sgt Dave McDowell were taken off the mountain after being swung out from the cliff and then into the aircraft.

She was flown to hospital at Bangor.
