Plans for Trefriw include a new embankment to protect properties |
A 5.2m scheme designed to improve flood defence in the Conwy valley will be unveiled at a public exhibition next week. More than 40 properties in the villages of Llanrwst and Trefriw were hit by flooding in February 2004, and again in January 2005.
The scheme includes permanent defences in Llanrwst, and a new embankment to protect properties in Trefriw.
If planning consent is granted, work could begin in the autumn.
The Environment Agency said the floods of 2004 and 2005 had been assessed as one-in-30-year events.

It said the scheme, which would be funded by the Welsh Assembly Government, would protect against a one-in-200 year event.
In 2005, the then environment minister Carwyn Jones and the director of the Environment Agency in Wales Dr Helen Phillips visited the flood-hit communities of the villages.
They said experts had drawn up four options to try to stop future flooding in the area, and a preferred scheme would be selected.
It will go on show at venues at both the villages next week.
The planning application for the proposals has been submitted to Conwy council, who will have the final decision on whether the scheme is granted planning permission.
