An annual music festival set up in the shadow of Snowdon by opera star Bryn Terfel has been expanded to include an extra fourth night this year.

The line-up for the 2005 Faenol festival includes Van Morrison, Alison Moyet, Katherine Jenkins and Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli.

Terfel said: "I think we have a fantastic line up this year."

The festival on the Faenol estate near Bangor offers opera, musical theatre and Welsh language music.

In recent years, artists including Jose Carreras, Jamie Cullum, Martine McCutcheon, Michael Ball, Claire Sweeney and Hayley Westernra have all performed at the festival, which is held on August bank holiday weekend.

The Faenol festival will run over an extra day this year

This year's event, which will run from the extra day on Friday, 26 August to Monday, 29 August, is the sixth festival held since its inception in 2000.

Also appearing on this year's line up are Aled Jones, harpist Catrin Finch, Welsh language musician Meic Stevens and Irish band the Saw Doctors.

In previous years, the festival has attracted 20,000 spectators over the three days.

Terfel said: "I am thrilled to be able to announce an outstanding line up for this year's festival and that there are four evenings of entertainment for the first time.

"The additional performance to open the festival on Friday night will enable the audience to do what we in Wales do best - sing.

"As well as solo items from me and the other guest artists, there will be the opportunity for the audience to join in.

"It's always difficult trying to make each festival as good as the last (but) I think we have a fantastic line up this year."

In March, the festival was given a 100,000 grant by the Welsh Assembly Government.
