Storm-hit railway link reopens
flood damage
The railway line was severely damaged in January
Rail services linking Blaenau Ffestiniog with Llandudno Junction which were disrupted by January's floods resume on Monday.

Heavy storms caused the River Conwy to burst its banks resulting in track damage from the subsequent flooding.

Ian Bullock from Arriva Trains said the line was "a vital link" for communities in the Conwy Valley.

"We are delighted that it will be back in service in time for the Easter break," he said.

For four weeks from Monday, an amended timetable will be in operation.

Sunday services will continue to be provided by a bus service until June. Details of the timetable will be displayed at stations.

Efforts are being made to attract more tourists to the area. New brochures have been published promoting the scenic journey on offer and interesting places to visit.

Posters at Betws-y-Coed and Blaenau Ffestiniog stations will provide information on the nearby Ffestiniog Railway and local bus services.

John Davies, community rail officer said: "This line is wonderfully scenic and is also a great way to get to the towns and villages in the valley for sightseeing.

"We hope to spread the word this week that the line is open for business for visitors and local people."

At Dolwyddelan, the Conwy Valley Rail Initiative, working with local people, have produced a poster for the station showing the many attractions the village has to offer.

Several stations have been adopted by local residents as part of the Adopt a Station initiative, and Arriva Trains Wales is keen to get even more people involved.

"The Adopt a Station initiative is all about encouraging community involvement and working together," Mr Bullock said.

"We would like to see schools, businesses, and residents - as well as our customers - taking a more active interest in their local stations to help us keep them in the best possible condition."
