Fifteen viewers rang the BBC Wales switchboard after Huw Evans mocked ex-choirboy Jones as he performed at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday.

Evans joked about when his voice broke and reports that he would not be singing for five years.

A spokesman said he "may have misjudged the unique nature of the event".

People in Jones' home village of Llandegfan on Anglesey were reported to be particularly angry that the local star had been slated on TV.

Around 15 viewers complained about the comments as part of the BBC Wales-produced coverage on S4C.

The BBC Wales spokesman said: "Huw Evans' irreverent humour and cheeky style have helped make him a popular presenter on both BBC and S4C.

"However, it appears he may have have misjudged the unique nature of the event.

"Aled was one of the first to agree to take part and did so with good humour.

"We are sorry if Huw's personal opinion offended some viewers.

"It clearly didn't reflect the warm reception for Aled which we conveyed in the stadium."

Jones, now 34, returned to the classical music charts in 2002 and recently showed his abilities on his feet during the hit BBC TV show Strictly Come Dancing.
