Weather on Snowdon can be unpredictable

Two men and two women were found stranded in low cloud, mist, and rain around midnight on Sunday. They had called for help at 1530 GMT on Saturday.

Just three hours after that rescue, five people - stuck on a ledge - were led to safety.

Atrocious conditions meant both rescues had to be carried out on foot.

The party of four were found by a search and rescue dog and 20 members of Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Team on Glyder Fawr on the south side of Snowdon.

The other five were found by Llanberis Mountain Rescue Team on Snowdon massive.

Chris Onions, co-leader of the Ogwen Valley team, said: "The four people didn't have a clue where they were and that posed difficulties for us.

"They were descending the mountain and found themselves on difficult terrain in bad weather conditions.

"They said they were entrapped and decided to say where they were.

"We spoke to them on a mobile phone and taught them to take aspects of slope, and describe to us the type of vegetation they were in and whether there were streams nearby.

"We transferred this to a map and started to solve the mystery of where they were."

He added: "It was like a jigsaw puzzle, but eventually we sent up some para flares which go up 1,000ft."

Mr Onions explained that the group's location was pin-pointed and a team was sent to lead them to safety.

They were finally located by a search and rescue dog.
