A steam railway shut for the day after the volunteer locomotive driver became a target for a vandal in Gwynedd. The driver on the Welsh Highland Railway at Porthmadog suffered a leg injury from a suspected air rifle pellet.
The half-century-old diesel engine - Glaslyn - was leading a train from the shed to the main line when the incident happened.
Police were called, while the driver suffered a bruised leg.
Railway officials said they had been suffering vandalism for months, but things seemed to be getting worse,
The line was closed for the day on Thursday and the six planned services cancelled, as staff did not want to take any risks.
Police were due at the railway later and the railway planned to open as usual on Friday.
Shop manager Lyn Seale said: "The railway is very popular with children and we could not afford to take any risk - we've been giving them free lollipops today as you can imagine their faces, they were very disappointed."
The railway said station lights had also been shot at in recent weeks
On Wednesday night, vandals also jammed shed doors by ramming a wagon into them.
