Marina expansion debate delayed
Pwllheli marina
Supporters say the marina has created 100 jobs
A meeting to discuss plans to almost double the size of Pwllheli marina has been postponed until next month.

Gwynedd councillors were due to discuss the proposals at a meeting on Tuesday.

But they complained they had not been given enough time to read the relevant documents, with some receiving them only on Monday.

Some members of the Plaid Cymru group, which controls the council, fear the plans could lead to an influx of non-Welsh speakers.

There are currently 400 moorings at Pwllheli marina.

Independent reports drawn up for Gwynedd council recommend that number should be increased to 700 by investing 3.8m.

Traditional

Those who favour the scheme, including the town's Plaid Cymru councillors, said the development would bring economic benefits and a failure to make improvements would mean the investment goes elsewhere.

But other Plaid councillors feared such an increase would lead to a large influx of non-Welsh speakers which, in the long-term, could damage a traditional Welsh language heartland.

Council leader Richard Parry Hughes was unhappy with the reasons for the delay and warned that it must not be repeated.

The debate on the plans has been postponed until 19 October.
