A 38-year-old mother accused of shouting racial abuse at a children's football tournament in north Wales has been cleared. Joanne Shannon, was found not guilty at Denbigh magistrates' court of racially-aggravated threatening behaviour.
Mrs Shannon, from Old Colwyn, had been accused of shouting racist comments at a 15-year-old Llandudno player.
She had denied the charge and after the hearing said she was not a racist.
After the four-day trial, Mrs Shannon said outside court: "I'm extremely pleased that the truth has come out in court.
"I'm not a racist and have sponsored a black child in Africa since 1997.
"All the people who know me, know I'm not a racist."
It had been claimed that she shouted racist comments at a teenage Llandudno player who scored two goals during an under-15s match against Old Colwyn side Glan-y-Don Cavaliers.
Mass brawl
The court heard how the Ron Jones tournament had ended in a mass brawl and several people have been bound over to keep the peace.
The boy alleged to have been subjected to the abuse told the trial that he did not hear Mrs Shannon shouting racist taunts.
"I could only hear male voices shouting racist stuff at me," said the boy.
Mrs Shannon, under cross-examination, said there had been a lot of noise by many people on a windy day.
She added: "Never in a million years would I have said those awful things, never."
