Hole in road disrupts traffic
Bangor High Street
The High Street is still open to shoppers
A two metre hole has opened up in a busy north Wales street, closing the area to traffic and causing major disruption.

A section of the road near the Fat Cat Cafe in Bangor High Street collapsed because of a faulty sewer.

The road closure caused major problems for motorists during the morning rush hour.

It is expected the section of the road affected will remain closed to traffic for the rest of Thursday.

A spokeswoman from Gwynedd Council said they were first called to the road collapse on Wednesday afternoon.

"The council arranged for a Welsh Water engineer to visit the site, and a camera investigation has confirmed that the collapse is the result of a faulty sewer approximately five metres from the collapsed section of road," said the spokeswoman.

The company anticipates that significant repair work will need to be carried out by their engineers, she said.

One man, who did not wish to be named said the incident has not caused too much disruption.

"People can come in, it's just disrupting a small section of the High Street."

The council spokeswoman added that the car parks at Sackville Road, Cannonry and Glanrafon were not affected by the collapse.

Lon Bopty can be accessed through Hendre Wen. and access to the town's Littlewoods store is not affected.
