Andy Cummings started his journey at Caernarfon Castle |
A climber has completed an epic cycle and foot trek from Caernarfon to south Wales to raise money for medical research. Andy Cummings suffered serious injuries to his spine after breaking his back in two climbing accidents.
He cycled through Wales and ran up and down the peaks of Snowdon, Cadair Idris and Pen Y Fan in a little over 21 hours.
The climbing instructor from Brecon has raised money for those more seriously injured by spinal damage.
He began his journey in Caernarfon on Sunday.
In 1985, he fell while rock climbing in the Peak District, breaking several vertebrae in his lower back.
Mr Cummings was "almost paralysed" in the Italian Dolomites |
Eleven years later, he broke two thoracic vertebrae and several ribs, punctured his lung and broke an arm in a fall in the Italian Dolomites. He supports Spinal Research and has become a member of the charity's Near Miss Club.
More than 40,000 people in the UK are paralysed as a result of damage to the spinal cord, with around 700 more people suffering paralysis each year.
