RAF cuts details unveiled
RAF Valley
Unions at Valley have been in talks with Babcock
Maintenance workers at RAF Valley on Anglesey have been sent details of proposed redundancies at the base.

Civilian contractor Babcock Defence Services has sent letters to around 200 staff, saying it is looking for between 30 and 59 job losses.

Babcock, which took over the 65m contract last week, has said it is looking for voluntary redundancies.

There were worries that the number of redundancies may have been as high as 100, but the company agreed to talks.

Union officials have been in negotiations with Babcock and a consultation period is due to end on 5 May.

Brown & Root and Marshall Aerospace (Brama) lost the contract to service Hawk jets at Valley last September.

Babcock said it could not guarantee the safety of any jobs at the base but said that there were no plans to "decimate the workforce".

The five-year deal, with options for a further three years, will involve a full range of aircraft support services.
