Threat to NHS admin jobs
An office worker
The business services centre provides administrative and support services
A union leader representing NHS workers has expressed his concern for more than 20 jobs in north Wales.

The jobs under threat at Caernarfon's business services centre - one of six centres providing administrative and support services to all 22 Local Health Boards in Wales.

Dave Galligan, Unison's head of health in Wales, said the future of the centre was "was not great" after employees were told formal consultation on their future was taking place.

The other centres are based in Cardiff, Carmarthen, Mold, Pontypool and Swansea and employ just under 500 staff.

Workers at the six centres were told the consultation to "modernise" the service would include a review of office locations and would likely to take place during the summer.

It is depressing in terms of the local economy and although it may not be a huge workforce it is still another 22 jobs that are under threat
Dave Galligan, Unison

Mr Galligan said it has been proposed that the staff in Caernarfon relocate to the Mold centre almost 60 miles away.

He said: "It doesn't look good for the people in Caernarfon and I wouldn't be happy about it."

"It is depressing in terms of the local economy and although it may not be a huge workforce it is still another 22 jobs that are under threat."

One worker, who did not wish to be named, said: "We do feel very aggrieved about it - it is a very disgruntled office."

A spokeswoman for the Local Health Boards said: "A project board, which includes staff and Union representatives, has been working for some time to look at the best and most efficient way of providing modern services.

"However it is important to stress that no decisions have yet been made and will not be made until after the full three-month consultation."

Hywel Williams, Plaid Cymru MP for Caernarfon, said: "There is no realistic prospect that the workers involved will be able to travel daily to new jobs in Mold.

"This proposal, if carried through, in effect, means the loss of 22 secure jobs in the public service in Caernarfon. This is a loss we cannot afford."
