One of the new wards at Llandudno General Hospital |
Twenty two elderly patients will be transferred from the old community hospital in Conwy to new accommodation at Llandudno General Hospital. The transfer from the former workhouse building that they have been accommodated in follows the completion of a new 3.4m extension at the Llandudno hospital.
The new 45-bed building for elderly patients groups wards on two floors and a single-storey rehabilitation department, complete with a physiotherapy gym and occupational therapy treatment room.
There are single bed wards as well as bays of four and six beds in the development which is linked by a corridor to the main hospital building.
Patients will share an integrated day and dining area and have views of the nearby golf course and coastline.
"The development is linked to the main hospital by a corridor which allows easy access for all support services and for the movement of patients within Llandudno hospital," said Keith Thomson, Chief Executive of the North West Wales NHS Trust.
It is the latest of 4.5m of developments at the hospital site.

New catering facilities have been opened at a cost of 400,000 as well as new on-call en suite accommodation for GPs - a 200,000 investment.
A new television, telephone, radio and internet system for patients at their beds has been installed , and will also be fitted to the new wing of the hospital.
One of the more unusual aspects of the latest extension is an artwork funded by the Arts Council in Wales Lottery Board.
The mural on the link corridor and adjoining courtyard shows scenes of Llandudno sea front and pier.
The old Conwy community hospital will close for good with the transfer of the patients.
