Widow wants answers
Brian and Enid Dodd
Mr and Mrs Dodd had been married for ten years
The widow of a man killed by a paranoid schizophrenic as he walked his dog near his north Wales home, has said there is a 'breakdown in the system' and is calling for a full inquiry

Brian Dodd, a 72-year-old retired accountant, was stabbed at least 10 times in his head and body as he strolled along Prestatyn's seafront with his dogs.

On Friday, Khan, a diagnosed paranoid schizophrenic from Tremorfa in Cardiff, pleaded guilty to his manslaughter at Chester Crown Court.

Mr Dodd's widow is demanding a full inquiry - similar to the system in England when a full investigation takes place after killings by people with a history of mental illness.

"What I've been led to believe is that this man was let out after he has committed another similar crime," she said.

"The questions I want to ask is why was this man walking the streets? Why was he left out ?

"One of the few things you can honestly say is that this is a crime that could have been prevented

"My husband had worked all his life and he was just enjoying his retirement. Why should it have been cut short in such a vicious way?"

Mr Dodd said she was determined to find out who had been responsible for the decision to release Khan back into the community.

"We will really go to town to find out what happened. I will even go to the prime minister," she added.

"Perhaps it will prevent another thing like this happening. I don't want anybody to go through what I have been through.

"I believe, like so many others that there is a break down of the system in this country and with the help of the media we should all ask questions.

"I do not want what happened to Brian swept under the carpet - I am calling for a full inquiry into why this was allowed to happen in the first place.

"This is not about me but justice for Brian.

"He was a kind, gentle and shy man. He was thoughtful, loved home life and loved walking our dogs Trish and Sophie.

"He didn't deserve to die the way he did - nobody deserves to die like that. This was a vicious, horrible attack on an old man."
