Free food has been given to elderly and vulnerable people in Wrexham, after a police conference was cancelled due to heavy snow. A buffet for more than 200 officers had been organised at the Stiwt in Rhos, where new chief constable Mark Polin had planned to address them. But when the event was called off at the last minute, officers helped to distribute the food locally. Insp Lisa Surridge said it was the "most positive thing to do". The buffet had been organised for Wednesday lunchtime, and for many officers in the audience it would have been their first chance to meet the new chief. He took over from predecessor Richard Brunstrom in November 2009. However, when the event was cancelled, Insp Surridge arranged for local officers to distribute the food to pensioners, disabled people and homes for the elderly in the south Wrexham area. They were joined by volunteers and staff from the Stiwt. Insp Surridge said: "It was just unfortunate that the event had to be cancelled at very short notice and rather than see the food go to waste we felt that this was the most positive thing to do."
