All aboard for bus beer festival

Visitors to the beer festival can travel between six pubs for the price of a pint

Extra buses are being put on to help real-ale lovers travel between six pubs which are jointly hosting a beer festival.

They are all on the route 76 service between Denbigh and Graigfechan, in Denbighshire.

An all day "rover" ticket can be bought for the price of a pint.

One of the publicans involved, Colin Garner, said: "We want show off the varied pubs in the vale of Clwyd and spread the real ale gospel."

Mr Garner, landlord of The Golden Lion, Llangynhafal, said a list of the ales available had been published, but it didn't reveal which beer was available in which pub.

"The idea is to get people to move from pub to pub to see what each one has offer," he said.

The bus route beer festival is being backed by the Vale of Clwyd branch of the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA).

Robert Jackson, CAMRA's pub liaison officer, said: "We support this because it helps support local breweries like Great Orme, and Facer's, and locally made beer and cider."

"Real ale and micro-breweries are really taking off, which is really good, especially when some rural pubs are becoming less popular."

The beer festival also has the backing of Denbighshire County Council, who run the route 76 bus service.

Extra buses will run during the day and, instead of finishing at 2000 BST, the service will carry on til 2300 BST, so drinkers can get home after last orders.

Peter Daniels, transport manager, said: "We're happy to support something that encourages people to enjoy a pint responsibly."

"The 76 is really scenic, and has a lot of potential as a tourist route, and we're hoping to welcome lots of new passengers to a lovely part of the world."

"�2.50 will buy an all day ticket - so you can travel as much as like, between as many pubs as you like, for the cost of a pint of beer."
