Passengers faced delays until about 0800 GMT on Monday |
Rail passengers travelling from north Wales to London have suffered delays caused by engineering work over-running. Work being carried out by Network Rail (NR) meant Arriva Trains Wales passengers had to be transported by road between Chester and Crewe. The work should have been finished in time for the start of services on Tuesday, following the Bank Holiday. An NR spokesman said the work had taken "a little longer" than first thought. The delays occurred after NR bosses had promised there would be no repeat of the three engineering overruns which caused travel chaos in the first days of the New Year. The Easter work was finally completed at 0717 GMT but delays continued until about 0800 GMT. The NR spokesman said: "We said we would do everything we could to avoid any overruns and the huge majority of work that we were doing over the network over Easter has been completed on time. "The Crewe-Chester work took a little longer than we thought and we kept the train operator informed overnight."
