Man, 52, killed in works accident

A 52-year-old worker has died in an accident at a recycling unit at Buckley in Flintshire.

North Wales Police said the man, who was from the area, died at West Pennine Recycling on the Spencer Industrial Estate on Friday afternoon.

He suffered crush injuries to his lower body and legs.

A joint investigation has been launched by the police and the Health and Safety Executive. The man in not being named until his relatives have been informed.

A spokesman for the Health and Safety Executive said an inspector went to the premises after getting a report about the accident at about 1700 GMT on Friday.

The accident is thought to have happened at around 1600 GMT and initial inquiries suggest the victim was struck by a vehicle, he said.

North East Wales coroner John Hughes has been informed of the death and an inquest is expected to be opened early next week.
