MP calls for care homes rethink

Wrexham MP Ian Lucas has called on the local council to abandon plans to close the town's last two care homes.

The Nant Silyn and Llys Madoc homes look set to close as part of a review of care for the elderly in the county.

Wrexham Labour councillors have called an extraordinary meeting on Monday, where the council will be asked to abandon the closures.

MP Mr Lucas said: "The council should not press on with these closures. I hope councillors see sense tonight."

He said the former Labour-led council voted to keep the care homes open.

He added: "That decision has now been reversed, and that is why Labour councillors have taken the step of calling for an extraordinary meeting of the council to stop the closures going ahead.

"This should not be a party political issue.

"It should be about ensuring there are a variety of options, including council provision of care for elderly people in Wrexham."

A spokeswoman for the council said they would discuss the results of Monday's meeting.
