Householders from Aston on Deeside had their say on the A494 development between Ewloe and Queensferry.

Councillor George Hardcastle said residents were worried about noise, pollution and traffic dangers.

Work on improving the trunk road, a link between the A55, the M56 and the M53, is expected to start next August.

Four lanes will be created for traffic travelling towards Ewloe with three in the opposite direction and hard shoulders will be created on both carriageways.

Mr Hardcastle, said: "There's particular concern that once this scheme is completed, the speed limit will go up from 50 mph to 70 mph.

"There've been countless accidents on this stretch of road and we don't want the situation to get worse.

"You don't need to improve the road. One of the main concerns was vehicles breaking down. All they needed was a drag lane [hard shoulder] to let the traffic continue.

"All they're doing now is pushing the bottleneck further field. They could have spent the money elsewhere."

He said residents were also opposing plans to build a feeder road and provide a new subway, which they feared would become a haven for drugs users and troublemakers.

The multi-million pound scheme will involve demolishing a number of homes which were bought by the authorities when the plans were drawn up 14 years ago.
