Police chief to take fitness test
Richard Brunstrom
Mr Brunstrom plans to reveal his test results on Thursday
The chief of North Wales Police is to investigate whether out-of-shape officers are being recruited because fitness tests are "too easy".

Chief constable Richard Brunstrom will take the test himself after being told by the force's physical training instructor it was inadequate.

Writing in his online blog he said taking the test was the only way to avoid "significant" credibility loss.

He will reveal the results of the test in his blog on Thursday.

Mr Brunstrom claims to be the first chief constable in the UK to write a blog - an online diary updated regularly.

In his latest instalment on Wednesday, he wrote: "I've just been hijacked by my force physical training instructor while standing in the lunch queue (where I do a lot of my best work).

"She says that the current Home Office national police physical test is far too easy, and that it's causing us to recruit people who are not fit enough.

"She's challenged me to do the test myself, to see what I think. I've had to agree, of course (no other way out without significant loss of credibility)..."
