Mr Wildman contracted MRSA after being admitted to the Maelor Hospital |
A coroner has urged hospital visitors to help fight MRSA after he recorded a verdict of accidental death after a pensioner died of the 'super bug'. Harry Wildman, from Mold, Flintshire, died on 7 December last year on Overton Ward in Wrexham Maelor Hospital.
He said there are stations on each of the wards where people can use alcohol washes.
"Anybody going to the hospital should avail themselves of that facility," he added.
At his inquest in Wrexham on Wednesday, North East Wales coroner John Hughes said Mr Wildman, a former welder, died of bronchial pneumonia assisted by MRSA.
Mr Wildman's family were not at the inquest on Wednesday but a written statement from his son was read out.
He said his father had suffered from chest infections for a number of years. However, during his stay at Wrexham Maelor Hospital "the doctor told me my father had MRSA", he wrote.
Dr Anthony Burge, consultant pathologist at the Maelor Hospital told Mr Hughes that MRSA is "widespread in every hospital in the country".
