Excitement builds for final date

Staff who work at cash-strapped Wrexham Football Club are hoping Sunday's cup final at the Millennium Stadium will boost spirits at the Racecourse.

The League One side take on Southend United in the LDV Vans trophy final.

Susan Edwards, a club worker for more than 26 years and a season ticket holder for even longer, said the excitement at the club was starting to mount.

More than 40 coaches of fans will leave Wrexham on Sunday for the trip.

Susan Edwards who looks after accounts and works in the ticket office at the club said she would not dream of missing the final.

"This is a nice chance to forget about all our problems," said the 45-year-old from Coedpoeth near Wrexham.

"This last three weeks has been unbelievable," she said.

"It's been so busy and people are still buying tickets and I think everyone is really looking forward to Sunday.

"I have never been there [the Millennium Stadium] and have only seen it on television but it's going to be fantastic. You're probably looking at 35,000 people there which will be tremendous," she added.

The club, which is in administration, has been allocated 21,000 tickets to sell ahead of the game and fans hope further sales will boost their revenue.

So far around two-thirds of the club's ticket allocation has been sold.

However, one supporter who will not be able to attend the final is the club's chaplain Reverend Paul Brown.

He has community commitments but the man the players affectionately call "Charlie the Chaplain" said he will be thinking of them on the day.

"I'll be near a radio so I'll be able to keep in contact and they have my blessing," said the club chaplain of 16 years.
