Docks charged over pollution
Port of Mostyn
Wings were shipped from the Port of Mostyn last week.
The company at the centre of a row over plans to dredge the Dee estuary has been charged with damaging its environment, BBC Wales has learnt.

Mostyn Docks will appear in court next month accused of illegally disposing of dredged material in Mostyn Deep.

It covers an area of the estuary off Point of Ayr in Flintshire.

The Welsh Assembly Government confirmed a summons was issued on its behalf by lawyers from the UK's environment department, Defra.

Mostyn Docks is currently locked in a separate dispute with the Environment Agency and the Countryside Council for Wales over its plans for maintenance dredging of the estuary which is protected under European law.

The docks' company insists dredging is essential if it is to be used to transport wings for the new Airbus superjumbo, which are being made at Broughton in Flintshire.

On Thursday, the firm shipped its second lot of wings out to France, using the Port of Mostyn for the first time.

The Environment Agency also agreed to some limited dredging of the area, which may enable Airbus to use the port again in the coming months.
