Ffrith beach used to be a thriving attraction |
Plans to sell-off a run down tourist attraction in Prestatyn are on hold. Denbighshire County Council says it will make a fresh assessment of the future of Ffrith Beach.
At the start of the summer more than 8,000 householders were given the chance to have their say on what should happen to the site.
The council says there are strong feelings in the community against selling the land to a private developer.
Ffrith beach used to be a thriving attraction which attracted thousands of visitors to its seaside fun fair and boating lake.
Plans to redevelop it as a festival garden ended when money ran out.
Council leader Rhiannon Hughes, who took over the post following June's local government elections, said the authority would "make a fresh assessment of the situation" it inherited from the previous administration.
"I am very aware of the strongly held views of many in Prestatyn regarding the future of the Ffrith Beach site," she said.
Rhiannon Hughes says the council will make a fresh assessment |
"Prestatyn councillors are among those who have been to see me to express their own opinions about the future of the site which is clearly of considerable importance to many in the town.
"I can give a clear assurance that the council, under my leadership, is listening to these views and I am arranging for the council to urgently to meet with all sides and make a fresh assessment of the situation.
"This will be done very quickly, but it is only fair to point out that the previous administration of the council made decisions about the Ffrith which need also to be carefully considered and this we are doing."
Plans suggested for the site in the past have included a DIY store, leisure facilities and new road access from the A548.
