New airgun laws are being introduced
A 10-year-old girl injured by an air weapon is lending her support to a police campaign to educate people about new airgun laws.

Emily Humpage from Colwyn Bay was left needing hospital treatment following an accident with an airgun.

The youngster lost part of her vision in one eye and had an operation to remove a pellet from her mouth.

Along with her mother Sharon, she is warning of the dangers of possessing guns as part of the all-Wales campaign.

The youngster is now recovering from her ordeal and her sight is slowly returning.

Law change

On Monday, Emily and her mother will join North Wales Police's Deputy Chief Constable Clive Wolfendale to warn people of changes to the law relating to airguns.

From the beginning of May, the Anti-Social Behaviour Act 2003 will make it an offence to possess a gas cartridge air weapon without a full firearms certificate.

Operation Target, being run by police until 30 April, aims to highlight the legal changes to people who own specific airguns.

"The new measures have been introduced because these types of weapons are all too often used by individuals during incidents of crime and anti-social behaviour," said Deputy Chief Constable Clive Wolfendale.

Those who have not applied for certificates by the end of April will be encouraged to hand in their gas cartridge air weapons.
