Officials who monitored traffic in the graveyard found serious problems |
Electric golf buggies could be used by disabled people to get around a Wrexham cemetery following a ban on cars. On Tuesday councillors voted to stop vehicles from going in and out of the Ruabon Road graveyard unless they are part of funeral corteges.
The move has angered disabled people who say it is "ludicrous".
However, Wrexham Council say they have no choice but to ban all cars for health and safety reasons.
Disabled campaigners in the town have criticised the car ban.

"I think it's ludicrous. Disabled people should be able to drive in there," said Harry Prankard, chairman of Wrexham Disability Forum.
"They're going to stop all cars going in there saying people could get run over, I've never heard of anyone getting run over in a graveyard.
"Can you imagine being on crutches, carrying flowers and trying to visit a graveyard?" he added.
George Binnersley visits the cemetery a few times a week in his car.
He says he may approach the Disability Rights Commission to see if he has a case against the council because he feels he is being discriminated against.
"What I've heard has been nothing more than a load of rubbish, we travel in and and out of that cemetery carefully. It's a place of tranquility and quiet," he said.
"We spend hours at the grave and never once have we seen anyone having to get out of the way of a car."
However, an internal council auditor who monitored the use of cars in the Wrexham cemetery noticed serious problems.
"During our inspection a party of walkers, including a disabled visitor using crutches, had to give way to a vehicle requiring access and, as a result, had to climb on top of gravestones adjacent to the roadway," he said.
Wrexham Council has increased exclusive parking bays for disabled visitors and placed extra benches for them to sit on to reduce their walking distances.
A feasibility study will be carried out to investigate the possibility of introducing another form of transport like golf buggies for disabled visitors.
