Skateparks have been built in many areas to satisy enthusiasts |
Plans to build a skatepark in the grounds of a Flintshire school could be stalled. Pupils at Elfed High School in Buckley wanted the park - which would be the first on school property in Wales - so that they could stop skating in the town centre.
Governors were worried it could cause disruption to lessons.
But former town mayor Dennis Hutchinson said he believed a more suitable site may now have been found.
"There are moves afoot and they're positive moves," he said.
"We've had a meeting with the director of education and we have identified a site where everyone could agree... it's adjacent to the school.
"The general message is that we're all optimistic," he added.
The land is owned by Flintshire County Council, but Buckley Town Council would like to obtain it to build the skatepark.
Buckley has agreed to pay 30,000 towards the cost, but it could cost up to 60,000 to build and maintain.
There is a council-run leisure centre on the site of Elfed High School and North Wales Police believe it would be ideal to house a skatepark, as it is well lit and there are staff on site.
Mr Hutchinson said at present children were skating near the homes of older people and "unintentionally causing problems".
