Customers have been told to use the Town Hill branch or risk losing it. |
Campaigners in Wrexham have won their fight to keep one of the town's post offices open although another will close. Postal service watchdogs have welcomed the decision not to shut the Town Hill branch after a protest from local residents and politicians.
It had been earmarked to go as part of Post Office Ltd's review which could see up to a third of Wales' 400 urban offices close in the next few years.
As part of its review the company has confirmed Smithfield in Wrexham will shut.

Town Hill campaigners argued customers had already lost the nearby Victoria Road branch last year and relied heavily on the one at Town Hill.
Now the chairman of Postwatch Wales, Eifion Pritchard, has urged people to make the most of the services on offer or face another battle.
"The customers of Victoria Road, which closed last year, will be very relieved and pleased that their nearest alternative post office has been saved," he said.
"Postwatch carries out a thorough investigation into each individual proposal and where appropriate, recommendations are made or indeed, objections.
Strength of feeling
"Now I would urge the community to make full use of Town Hill post office in order to ensure its long-term viability. In other words - use it or lose it."
Wrexham MP Ian Lucas said the decision reflected the strength of feeling in the area.
"We had the arguments, we had the numbers and we carried the day," he said.
"However, I am very disappointed that the Smithfield area is still to lose its post office and I will be writing very strongly to the Royal Mail to say so.
"I am also still exploring possible alternative locations for a post office in this area of town."
