Lyn and Michael Walker have left their bar behind |
A couple have scooped nearly 3m on the National Lottery after discarding their normal six numbers for a lucky dip ticket. Former publicans Lyn and Michael Walker from Ruthin, Denbighshire, north Wales, discovered their jackpot win when they checked their ticket in the local supermarket.
"When we found out we had all six numbers and the bonus ball, I was in total disbelief," said Mrs Walker.
The pair, who live in a bungalow on the outskirts of Ruthin said they will not move but will buy a house in Spain and a property on the north Wales coast.
Married for 35 years, the Walkers have only just retired from running The Old Cross Keyes pub in Llanfwrog, Denbighshire in February.

They were forced to leave the bar because of 61-year-old Mr Walker's failing health, he had a hip operation last year and a knee replacement a month ago. "The win took a lot of pain away from my knee," joked Mr Walker.
The couple have only managed a 120 win previously and Mrs Walker said they scooped the top prize by chance.
"We chose a lucky dip for the first time. It was the first time we changed," she said.
"We are both still mesmerised by the news and can't believe it's real. It's the sort of thing which happens to other people."

They were out celebrating a friend's birthday on Saturday and missed the televised draw, but they found out they had won the jackpot of 2,840,140 the following day.
The couple - who have no children - said they plan to make a charitable donation.
However, for now they are concentrating on finding a new car for 60-year-old Lyn and a holiday home in Spain.
"It would be great to enjoy the sunshine and to be on the other side of the bar for a change," said Mr Walker.
Before the house hunting begins the couple are planning a party to celebrate with friends and family.
