Streets awash after flash floods
Rivulet Road, Wrexham
Sandbags were brought in to protect Rivulet Road
Widespread flooding across north east Wales has caused problems throughout the region with the fire brigade called out to more than 100 homes.

In Wrexham, the town's main car park Eagles Meadow was under a foot of water and streets in the surrounding area were closed as fire engines and council vans pumped water out.

The most affected village in Wrexham was Coedpoeth, where two fire engines were called out to deal with the floods.

Several roads including Talwrn Road were closed to motorists and water was pumped out of gardens.

A spokeswoman for North Wales Fire Service said the flash floods were caused by heavy downpours of rain.

"We received our first call at quarter to ten this morning and we've had more than 100 calls since," she said.

"The majority of the work has involved pumping water from streets."

Wrexham Council called their emergency response team together shortly before lunchtime to decide how to tackle the situation.

There are a number of roads closed in Flintshire and the county council have said the worst hit areas are in Oakenholt, Connah's Quay, Northop Hall and Bagillt.

In Denbighshire the A494 road has been closed between Ruthin and Mold.

The Fire Brigade Service have warned the torrential rain is now heading west and is expected to spread across the whole of north Wales.
