North Wales Police have targeted car thieves
Police in north Wales have cracked down on car thieves by publishing their 'most wanted' list for motorists to see.

PC Pete Barrett from North Wales Police said people with older cars need to be extremely vigilant.

"While more modern cars tend to be more secure, older cars are particularly vulnerable to both thefts from and thefts of the vehicle," he said.

"This is the police's way of helping the public to help prevent themselves becoming victims of car crime."

Officers in Wrexham are also targeting car crime with a vehicle named the 'hot spot' car.

The car is emblazoned with signs and will patrol areas of the town where police know thieves have been operating.

PC Barrett said motorists need to be more security conscious.

"We are targeting the criminals but we are also encouraging people through education to help themselves by being more security conscious," he said.

"Many vehicles are targeted simply because owners leave items and valuables on show to the potential thief.

"Time and time again we get reports of expensive equipment such as laptops and digital cameras being stolen and in most cases these items were on view to the thief."
